Should you go to Kota / Hyderabad for JEE/NEET

When it comes to Kota, I'm sure you've heard enough about coaching industry flourishing in Kota and Hyderabad.
You might be wandering...
Is it really easy for someone to clear JEE or NEET after taking coaching at Kota? Should you go to Kota/Hyderabad or prepare at your own city...? Will going to Kota increase your JEE score if you take a drop?

And today I have something for you that will make you feel like you know everything about these cities without even being there. No one will ever tell you these things about Kota.

QUALITY EDUCATION

Lakhs of parents send their children to Kota and Hyderabad by spending hard earned cash. Obviously there is something special which made parents make such a huge investment on their children.
Believe it or not, the quality of education you get in these cities is exceptional but it is something that must be taught at school level. Many of these things are simply skipped because they are not asked in board exams. Some of the difficult concepts are not even taught and you are asked to mug up things (like derivations in physics or reactions in chemistry). I wondered at your age; why I am asked to remember things AS SUCH even in science stream.

Then I came to Kota, the very first lecture (Everyone gets a SHOCK! , I've covered that later) at coaching changed my perception. You're hardly asked to remember anything, everything is taught with concepts. And the best part...
You can apply these concepts anywhere and you will always get correct results.

That's great but, how are these coaching institutes different from the ones present in my city?

The answer to that is very long, I have included the answer in the article : Should you opt for Local Coaching Institutes?

ENVIRONMENT and ATMOSPHERE

Let's start with the bad news first...
Step out of your room in Kota and you'll find everyone around you studying. WRONG !
Time is changing and nowadays some teenagers are unwillingly sent to Kota. That's the main cause of students getting addicted to alcohol and drugs! Some of these even get engaged in ill-legal activities too.

Suicides

Caused mainly due to  pressure of studies from coaching institutes and parents. This topic has got a lot of media coverage and so I won't waste much time on that.

Hot weather at Rajasthan, is another big problem. Temperature remains around 45 degrees during summers and even crosses 50 degrees in June.
Everyone will be so kind to you during your initial days at Kota, you'll almost feel like as if it is heaven for students. Then, after a month or so you'll realize that you are just a part of massive crowd of students and have no value in eyes of people around you. Everyone around you (except other students) is just making money out of this industry. Some of the people talk very arrogantly to students, they even ignore their concerns or problems. All in all one can say that Kota is not at all STUDENT-FRIENDLY.

And the worst is yet to come, THE MESS FOOD!
Many of us choose hostels because of the good quality, tasty food being served during months of April, May and June. After which, the quality goes down, and the food being served doesn't even deserve to be called as 'FOOD'.

Remember? I promised you to share something about the first
lecture. The first time I entered my classroom in Kota, I was shocked to see that 150 students are sitting in a single classroom, almost 5 times the number found in schools. You are given very compact space for sitting and for keeping your notebook (space for only one).

The RACE BEGINS HERE...
Batch-mates reach the classrooms 1 hour prior to start of class so as to get a front seat. You have to rush after good teachers for asking your doubts as they are very hard to find and very quick in dis-appearing after the class 😊.

The good news :

In-spite of so many drawbacks of living in Kota, this city is best at what is known for.
Doubt counter is place situated in coaching institutes where you may go and get your doubts resolved by in-experienced teachers which may 'sometimes' solve good questions. Note that I've use the word 'in-experienced', that's because experienced teachers are busy in taking classes and are never available in doubt counters. Nevertheless, it really helps sometimes especially if you're weak in a particular subject.

However, it's not the only way you can get your doubts cleared, you can also seek help from your friends (My personal favourite). Friends/Batch-mates better understand you and exactly know where you might be stuck at.

Not an intelligent student, here's action plan coaching institutes have for you...

Based on your score in first few tests, you'll be allotted a batch which will have students having same mental level as yours. Teachers generally discuss high level problems in top batches whereas in lower batches they focus on building concepts and strengthening basics. As a result, even students from last batch get selected and not all the students from top batch gets selected. That's where proper planning, and knowing what to study makes all the difference.
You may not get a good environment of studies in your own city. Most students in Kota come with a motive of cracking JEE, that's why all of them are serious. It will really motivate you to complete your homework, when all your batch-mates have completed their's. You'll face direct competition at a national level.
Wait, there more...
When discussing homework (asking of doubts in homework by students from teacher), you'll come across different techniques your batch mates used for solving a typical problem.

CONCLUSION

Media highlights only good results and suicides, and only these two factors aren't enough for making a decision. However, I highly recommend you taking coaching for JEE because there are a lot of things from NCERT books which you will be missing out in schools.

Pay attention! to the fact that i recommended taking coaching, it's completely your choice : Where you want to take coaching? You can have a look at all the other alternatives you have here.

I’ve also included the 80-20 technique, which if used with caution; will drastically change your level of success. It’s time for you to READ YOUR OWN STORY.  You are in your school/coaching. Your favourite teacher comes in and starts a new chapter “Newton’s Laws of Motion (NLM)”. WoW! New chapter, this is the time to forget the past, from now onwards none of my modules and DPP’s will be left unsolved (we think this every time LOL ! 😅). . . Some days later, first assignment on NLM . After having a look at few questions??? “Ohhh. I’ll need to revise class notes first and solve class-illustrations afterwards. “ A few hours later... “Glad that I completed the theory part. Even though I couldn’t complete homework, but still I now know a lot about NLM. From tomorrow onwards, I’ll not leave any assignment on this topic.” . . One week later… . ...
